The end of a wonderful two months

Today is a very sad day for me. It's my last full day in Bali and as I enjoy my last delicious banana pancake I can't help but wish I'd of booked my flight for a week...No a month later. I am not ready to leave this amazing part of the world.

Soon I will be on a plane bound for Gatwick Airport, the thought of the cold air hitting me as I get off the plane is not the nicest thought to be honest.

The only thing that is keeping me going is the fact that summer is just around the corner and so far my summer is looking like it's going to be a good one.

Well lovely people I hope you have enjoyed my images of the beautiful places I have visited. I wonder where I will go next.........

Welcome to paradise

Exploring Bali is always an adventure. You never know what things you're going to come across. Over the past couple of weeks I have been to some truly exceptional beaches, surfed some amazing waves and caught a pretty good tan :)

There have been a few small days since I have been here, which has been the perfect time to fit in some tourist days out. The girls and I went to see some Monkeys, swim in an infinity pool and went to a water park! Who said flat days have to be boring?!

Sadly as my two month trip gradually comes to an end I can honestly say I have had so much fun. More fun than I could ever of imagined. So many trips all rolled into one and the people I have met a long the way have made it all extra special.

When I say I don't want to come home I mean it. The thought of having to get into a wetsuit and brave the icy cold water does not appeal to me one bit at the moment. Two months just doesn't feel like enough.

It's been a while since my last blog....I have tried but for some reason it took me a while to change it from Indonesian to English....and seen as I don't speak Indonesian I found it quite challenging. But fear not I'm back on it!

So Bali is more hectic then Sri Lanka so this part of the trip has a really different feel. We have been driving around so much but its fine because we have got ourselves a pimping blue jeep which we have already taken off road through some rice paddy fields.

Week Two

Sri Lanka just keeps getting better and better the waves have been exceptionally fun, the weather glorious and I have met some amazing people.

As much as I love surfing and relaxing on the beach, sometimes it's nice to mix thing up a little..... Like climbing a mountain. Getting the chance to climb Adams Peak and watch the sun rise is something I couldn't turn down.

We left Hikkaduwa at 20:30pm and arrived at Maskeliya; the village situated at the foot of the mountain just gone 2am the following day. It took me 1 hour 45 minuets in total to do the climb and I can definitely say that I can feel the effect of the 5000 or so steps that I had to climb up and down.

If you ever get the chance to go to Sri Lanka then climbing Adams Peak is is must.

2012 is finally upon us. How glad I am to leave 2011 behind me. It is safe to say that was the worst of my 23 years on this earth but it has definitely taught me a lot about myself.
It's funny how losing a parent makes you see life in a different way. The cliche that "Life is too short" is very much true and it's when you forget this that something usually comes to bite you in the ass to remind you to stop worrying about silly things and actually live you life..........Which is exactly what I am going to do.

So this year I won't be partaking in the "new years resolution" tradition, as personally I don't believe in them. Why would I want to focus on the stuff that I'm not going to do when I could be focussing on the things I am going to do....

2012 is going to be the year that I do more of the things that I enjoy!

With that in mind, on saturday I leave the UK on a jet plane bound for Sri Lanka and Bali and won't be back till middle of March; ready to enjoy another summer at home with my amazing friends and family.

Here's to another year of doing what you love ♥

A sunny Fistral Beach

This weekend saw the final event on the UK Pro Surf Tour calendar with my sponsors Nalu Beads saving the day for the Womens division and allowing the Queen of Queens event to go ahead!

The conditions weren't great but that certainly didn't bother the competitors.

The final saw, Tassy Swallows, Joanne Dennison, Gabi Rowe and Gwen Spurlock all fighting for first place. Current under 18's British Champion Tassy Swallows took the win this time with Gabi in 2nd, Gwen in 3rd and Joanne taking 4th.

A massive thanks has to be given to Kerry Powell from the UK Pro Surf Tour for making this event possible and to Nalu Beads for sponsoring the event. Lets hope next year the womens tour is bigger and better than ever before!

Everything happens for a reason.
Well at least that's what I keep telling myelf. A couple of weeks ago I tore the ligaments in my ankle and since then I haven't surfed. Typically the surf has been pumping and my patients have been severely tested.

Thankfully I can now walk and recently started to cycle. Sadly neither are scratching my surfing itch but I've just got some new wheels which I will be doing up; it should keep me occupied for a while.

I'm not sure how long I will be out the water for but I am trying to stay positive. Absence makes the heart grown fonder so no doubt when I do finally get suited up and hit the water I will be frothing like a grom.

Everyone needs to be humbled sometimes and watching "Soul Surfer" certainly did that. If you haven't already seen it you must.

Bethany Hamilton is a very inspirational young woman and I am not ashamed to admit it I found the story of her life a little emotional. Admittedly there were moments in the film that were on the cheesy side but everyone loves a bit of cheese now and again.
I am extremely grateful for being invited to the UK Premiere which was held in my hometown.

Even though it may not feel like it right now with this beautiful Indian summer, winter is fast approaching and it will soon be time to layer up!

This week I received my Autumn/ Winter 11 package from Fox.

The collection is a mix of comfy cosy knits and some military inspired pieces.

For now though I am going to enjoy the Autumn sunshine whilst it lasts. ♥

Also I just finished a shoot with Ghetto Funk. The shoot took place in one my favourite cities, Bath. I didn't recognise myself in some of the shots; it's completely different to anything I have ever done!
The images will be used on their t-shirts so people will actually buying clothing with my face on......Crazy!!!

As you may have already seen I have hosted a couple of C-Skins Girls Surfing Days. One in my hometown Newquay and one more recently in the beautiful village of Croyde in Devon.
The aim of these days are to get the next generation of women's surfers excited about the sport.
I am so passionate about getting more women and girls involved in surfing and theses days are the perfect way to do just that! I have to say the level of surfing I saw from these girls was impressive!

Also a massive thanks to Croyde Surf Club for having us and putting on a delicious BBQ, Karma Worthington for helping to coach, all the lovely girls who attended the days and of course C-Skins and Nalu Beads! ♥

Minute to Win it

When Cadbury asked me to join them at Relentless Energy Drink Boardmasters I jumped at the chance. I had seen their game show, Minute to Win it at Wakestock a few weeks ago and it looked right up my street!

Fellow Nalu Bead team rider Lex Balladon was also invited; the prospect of hanging out with Cadbury and playing some bizarre games was far too appealing for us to turn down!

Lex and I got the chance to play the Minute to Win it games and naturally I won the first game we played.....Not sure how much skill was involved but still a win is a win!!

The Minute to Win it game show is sponsored by Cadbury Spot v Stripes campaign.

The game show is like no other; not only will you have a lot of fun taking part but you will also make a fool out of yourself in the process and us Brits love that!

With the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympic Games just around the Corner Spots v Stripes is Cadbury way of getting everyone together to get active and have some fun. The game show will be coming to the UK very soon.

Whilst there Lex and I got the chance to meet Charlie Simpson (formerly of Fight Star) and Olympic Diving Silver Medalist Leon Taylor. We got the chance to have a little chat about what they had been up to.

Turns out both Charlie and Leon are into surfing. Charlie is particularly fond of Polzeath whilst Leon prefers to be surfing Moroccan waves. Who'd of thought I'd have something in common with a Singer and an Olympic Diver!

A surf festival in London...?!

Surfing has gone urban. Westminster Boating Base was the home of the London Surf Festival last Saturday, all in aid of UK based charity Lifeworks. Nalu Beads kindly asked me to join them at the festival, spreading the Nalu Bead love yet again.
The forecast was grim so I packed my wellies, ski jacket and headed North for London town!!!
The journey was slightly challenging with a couple of major crashes and a hay bail spillage to deal with, so as you can imagine I couldn't wait to get to London and indulge in a glass of wine or two with my lovely team manager.

The rain poured for the vast majority of the day but that didn't stop the locals coming down to check out what was happening. The Nalu tent was busy from start to finish with some of our customers travelling from far and wide to come see us. It was so lovely to meet people who are as passionate about the beads as I am!

Wakestock you surprised me.....

It's always good to broaden your horizons and in my case my knowledge of water based sports. Surfing consumes a lot of my free time but this weekend it was solely dedicated the art of Wakeboarding.

After a 7 hour drive to Abersoch North Wales; with a car full of Nalu Beads, festival gear and my brother, we hooked up with pro wakeboarder Lex Balladon to get the low down on what Wakestock was about.

The sun shone all weekend, the line up was epic and the wakeboarding insane! All in all a wonderful weekend in the Welsh countryside!

Thursday night saw the launch of the Nike 6.0 Boardshort Bar. A1Surf sent me a long to sample the sparking cider and to get the low down on what Nike 6.0 were doing in town.

The evening was a success from start to finish and a great way to kick off the Nike 6.0 Night Surf.

They had thought of everything, delicious food, local beer and cider, a photo booth, entertainment.... I could go on!

Yep this is me and my lovelies taking full advantage of the photo booth. I must add no kissing actually went on in the booth, it is all purely for artistic effect.

Team Nalu Beads were in full force this weekend; Lex Balladon, Laura Crane and myself all assembled on Oceanfest to spread the Nalu Bead love.

The weather may have been a little doggy at the start but that did not stop girls from rocking the denim shorts wellies look. I was far too cold to even consider getting my legs out but the wellies I definitely embraced as the field slowly turned into a mud pit.

The weekend was a massive success for all; well except for the poor Bull that decided to go for a swim and had to be nudged back to shore by the lifeguards on jet skis. Not too sure what he was doing, but it did get pretty hot today so maybe he just needed to cool off?!

The musical delights at Oceanfest were wonderful; Ed Sheeran was a personal favourite of mine!

Being at Oceanfest was a great chance to meet all the died hard Nalu Bead followers; who were all so lovely!
Such a wonderful weekend with some exceptional people, roll on next year is all I can say.

2011 has been settling in quite nicely and the year looks set to be a busy and exciting one!

My new role at A1 Surf kicked off last week with my first interview for them with pro junior Harry Timson.

I was a tad rusty and pretty much laughed the whole time; so a lot of editing had to be done but I am sure with a little practice I will be just as good as Oprah !

Confirmation of a trip with some exceptional female surfers at the end of March has got me thinking about warm water underneath my feet and the sun on my skin. Roll on March is all I can say!

Winter may be dragging some people down but Yoga has been helping me find my balance throughout these busy winter months. Allowing me to forget about that accounting essay that was driving my up the wall or all the emails I need to reply too. All that I have to think about is my breathing and strengthening my body inside and out.

But if I am honest I am excited about practicing Yoga in Sri Lanka.....I think the fact that I will be doing it in the sun, after hopefully surfing pumping waves will make it that little bit better! ♥

First Blog of 2011

Admittedly I have been a tad slack on the blogging front but I do have a valid reason.....Open University!

French and Business Studies seem to have taken over my life.

So far I have spent January on my lap top or with my head in books. If I haven't been studying I have been down my local gym or in the sea.

This may sound dull to some people but I am actually quite enjoying it.

I have got myself into a good routine with my training.

I am practicing Yoga and Kick Boxing twice a week as well as some Cardio and Core Strength training.

In between all of this I am still enjoying the winter waves and putting my C-Skins Wetsuits to good use!

I started the year with some clear goals in mind and so far so good! I have got some exciting trips and shoots planned so it's all go! I am going to be working closely with A1 Surf on some exciting new projects and putting my new blogging camera to good use.......Thanks Nalu Beads!

Bedridden Boredom

Winter has a lot of drawbacks; Flu being one of them.

I have recently had the pleasure of being bedridden with Flu. Ah the joys of being so poorly that attempting to get out of bed makes you exhausted.

Nearly a week on and I am making a speedy recovery. Just in time to get festive!

Before flu took over my poor little body I got the chance to take part in a photo shoot for Pitpilot Magazine.

Now I am getting back to normal and not getting out of breath from making a cup of tea, I can start to think about surfing again. Ah Surfing......Can I even remember what that feels like?!
So please please please make it pump over Christmas so I can actually give my new C-Skins wetsuit some use!

Speaking of getting festive. I have just had the pleasure of spending the evening with my lovely sponsors Nalu Beads.
Nalu Beads are now stocked in Annes Cottage, Falmouth and with it being late night Christmas shopping every Thursday the wonderful creators of Nalu Beads decided to hold one of their highly successful Nalu Bead Workshops.

Even though the weather may have sadly put a lot of people off venturing into the Town we still had some very happy customers.

I was most definitely was one of them! I fashioned myself a very lovely headband and got my creative juices flowing!

Kerry Powell a good friend and Surfgirl reporter came down to purchase herself a few exquisite beads.

So make sure to check her blog out on the Surfgirl website to get her insight into the Nalu Bead world.

Surfgirl Magazine has recently set up a Surfgirl Community page on Facebook. The idea behind it is to allow women and girls who surf to get in touch with each other and arrange some quality surfing time.

Surfing is still very much a male dominated sport and for some girls this can be very intimidating.
This page is such a great idea, it will give surfer girls the chance to network within the women's surfing community and find girls within their local area to surf with.
So surfer girls spread the word and start arranging some surf dates.

Icy cold hands…..

So the boots are most definitely on! The thoughts of surfing in my Stormtrooper C-Skins 3’2 are long gone. It’s all about wearing as much rubber as you can possibly get on and in my case resembling a seal!

Not going to lie; the surf has been pretty shocking of late! I am keeping my fingers crossed for some fun waves to come my way soon…..I am starting to get a tad frustrated to say the least.

On the plus side with winter comes the festive season. To kick it all off was the UKPSA Awards. It was a great success! The lovely Kate Ardon planned the evening extremely well. Everyone had a ball.

The after party was hilarious. “Pass the Shape” game, topless pro surfers strutting their stuff and Sambuca & Cinnamon flaming shots; what more can I say. It was off the hook! Let the party season commence!

Back to more serious matters. I have recently teamed up with Surfers Against Sewage, it was a real pleasure to be a part of their campaign. SAS are really working hard to try and improve the water quality for ocean users. Check out the story on their page.

I love doing shoots like this; it’s fun and easy. I always feel comfortable jumping around in my wetsuit, board in hand. However it is always nice to have your hair and make up done and become transformed into a blushing bride!

Nope I am not getting married, still very much one independent woman!
I have just been lucky enough to take part in the Number 8 Salon re-launch shoot.
The team of stylists each had one model to work their magic on.

My look for the shoot was 1940’s. I had a beautiful white satin vintage style wedding dress and Dita Von Tess esque hair and make up!

I cannot wait to see the final shots from photographer Lee Searle.
I had such a wonderful time at the shoot. The location was beautiful.

Huge thanks must go out to everyone who made the shoot possible. Caerhays Estate, Number 8 Salon (especially my stylist Claire Pascoe), the photographer Lee Searle and make up artist Ella Butler.

Hopefully my next blog won't take so long. My Open Uni has been quite demanding, but I think I am beginning to get my head around it......Just about anyway!

Yet another day in paradise….NOT!

As the water gets even colder and the wind is becoming gale force, I have begun to think about making a quick get away to a warm sunny island somewhere.......Anyone want to join me?!

I have been feeling like this for a while now but the arrival of my Maldives shots from Simon Williams aka “Swilly” have really given me withdrawal symptoms. I need some sunshine!

I had such a fun trip with Surfgirl and the ladies that I got to hang out with were amazing!
I am looking forward to seeing most of them over the weekend, to have a good old catch up at the last UKPSA event of the year.

The Animal Open is the decider for who wins the UKPSA tour!
Sadly I will not be able to attend the competition but fear not, it is all for a very exciting reason. So watch this space!

I am certainly not going to miss out on the Relentless Awards Party though. The chance to dust of my dancing shoes and have a few sneaky glasses of vino with the girls on the tour is something I cannot turn down.

As you all know I love surfing but also have another passion that runs through my veins….Dancing!!
I have recently taken up Hip Hop classes with Emma Stanton at her Revolution Dance Company. I am having so much fun.
A couple of my close friends come with me, which defiantly makes it more enjoyable.
Next week is our last session of Hip Hop and we are having our routine filmed. Depending on how well I dance will determine whether I put the YouTube link on my next blog! ☺

Groundswell are also taking a keen interest in Dancing and have been so kind as to get a crew of Groundswell members tickets to the “Breakin’ Convention”, at the Hall for Cornwall.
I am one of the lucky ones who get to attend the event.
I am so excited to watch some amazing international dancers showcase their moves. I am probably not going to be able to sleep tonight from excitement!

Hello lovely people, it's been a busy couple of weeks for me. But I am not going to lie I have had a ball!

If you have managed to miss all of the press coverage from my girls surfing weekend here is a quote from one of its participants. Just to give you an idea of how it all went...

Think that pretty much sums it up! The weekend rocked!

Since then I have been busy editing away the footage from the weekend and writing press releases.

There is certainly no rest for the wicked!

Surfing is not the only sport I would like to dabble in. Last weekend saw the Relentless Freeze Festival in Battersea Power Station, London. Freeze is a snow sports music festival where the cream of the crop in the snow world get to showcase their talents.

The weekend was off the hook.....it defiantly made me want to get my ski jacket on and hit the slopes...well try anyway

I may be a surfer and model but I am also a little bit of a Geek....and I am not ashamed to hide it!

I have recently passed my ILM First Line Management Course!!

I have to say a massive thanks to Groundswell for funding it all for me!

The course has set me up for my Open University which started this week.

So hopefully I will be expanding my knowledge of Business and becoming fluent in French....well that's the plan anyway!

Girls Surfing Weekend!!!

Over the last couple of weeks I have been planning my very own girls surfing weekend.
My employers Errant Surf Travel and Groundswell CIC have been kind enough to help me host a fun filled weekend strictly for GIRLS ONLY!!!

My brilliant sponsors Fox Europe, C-Skins and Nalu Beads have got on board too and have helped sponsor the event, by donating goodie bags and prizes. Without their support I would not of been able to plan such a great weekend for some up and coming young surfer girls.

Yesterday I had the fun job of putting goodie bags together for the girls taking part; it felt like Christmas had come early.

This morning I had a lovely little delivery from my sponsors Nalu Beads to add to the goodie bags.
I am really exited to see what wonderful creations the girls come up with on Saturday!

The weekend is aimed at girls under 18 who both want to get into surfing or who have already had a taste for the sport and want to progress further.

The girls will have two surf lessons on the Saturday with top Errant and Groundswell CIC Coaches Charlotte Thompson and Jessica Ferin.

The girls will be filmed and photographed (by myself and Annemarie Hughes) throughout their surf lessons and will get a chance to look back over the footage and see what they need to work on in the future.

While the girls are on dry land they can get their creative juices flowing with a Nalu Bead worship, whilst getting to feast on some delicious cup cakes provided by Gemma Fryer.

The highly successful Retallack Lodge and Flowrider have jumped on board and will be hosting my group of surfer girls on the Sunday
The very talented chefs in the Loop Restaurant have created a 2 course menu for the girls to indulge in. Not only that but they get to take the recipe home with them!

I am extremely excited about the weekend….lets hope we get some waves!!

Autumn Rocks!

We are well and truly into autumn now, the leaves are crunchy under my feet and the waves have been PUMPING!

The last couple of weeks has seen some epic swell hitting the Cornish coastline...not only that but the sun has been making an appearance too.

Home has never felt so good! A couple of weekends ago I was lucky enough to help out at the Surf 4 Freedom event at the Flowrider. This event was for people with physical disabilities, learning difficulties and sensory disabilities such as autism.

This is the first time that disabled people have had their own dedicated competition, marking it a major step forward for disabled inclusion in surfing.

The event was a huge success. My cheeks where aching by the end of the day from smiling so much. Everyone one who took part was so inspirational. I met some truly amazing children and adults who really put things in prospective for me.

Retallack Lodge did such a good job and the enthusiasm of the instructors did not go unnoticed. Check out the shots that Annemarie Hughes took, it will give you an insight into just how amazing this event really was.

I am one busy bee at the moment because I am also planning the Girls Surf Weekend in association with Errant Surf Travel, FOX Girls,

C-Skins Wetsuits, Nalu Beads and not forgetting the people funding the whole weekend - Groundswell CIC!

The weekend is aimed at girls under 18 who want to get into surfing or work on their technique. It’s already fully booked!

10 Lucky girls will be surfing all weekend...getting photographed, filmed, fed, watered and given goodies to take home with them!

Surfgirl Magazine have kindly said that they will cover the event which I am ecstatic about!

I recently took part in a Nalu Bead photoshoot.....I had such a lovely day. We where shooting in beautiful North Devon in the luxurious October sunshine.

I got to meet some lovely people and wear some beautiful beads.....Defiantly up there with one of funniest shoots I have done!

We had some pretty cool props. Me and fellow team rider Lex Balladon where cruising around on some old school skateboards whilst Laura Crane pedalled around on a retro bike.

I have had a sneak preview of the shots and they look amazing.

I can't wait to see what they do with them?!

Fracturing your finger is not the funniest of things to do at the best of times - especially when you are half way through your NARS Beach Lifeguard training, about to do your Level 1 Surf Coaching and have the British Nationals coming up... it really throws a spanner in the works!

With a pop and no snap and crackle, it happened on the third day of my NARS course not long after a conversation with one of guys on the course about how I "had never broken a bone in my body".

I did not know the damage I had done, what I did know was it hurt a lot and I found it challenging to say the least, getting out of my wetsuit!

One X-Ray later and I found out I had fractured my middle finger right on the join of the knuckle. No more lifeguarding, surfing or kick boxing for me in the near future, I was gutted – especially as we were facing the start of the September swells, we all know how much fun the sea can get just as the season starts winding down.

Four weeks later and I am back to normal, no straps or supports needed, I can surf and swim. Think it's a little too soon for the kick boxing though.

I can’t tell you how happy it makes me, being back in the water – regardless of the fact it’s definitely colder than when I was last in!

As you know, I went to the Maldives in July with Surfgirl. The article was originally being featured in November in Surfgirl magazine - however they decided to spice things up a little by running half the article in their brother magazine Carve. This article was aimed more at the male population should I say! I loved it though... check out my page from the latest issue.

C-Skins are also putting my face out there... and body! You can see me modeling wetsuits in the latest issue of Surfgirl which has the lovely Laura Crane and fellow Maldives companion on the cover. I discovered that wetsuits are not easy to model - I came out of the shoot with blisters on my fingers!

Recently all of my time was taken up planning the Ground Swell Black Tie dinner with the director of Ground Swell CIC Ben Jones.

It was a fantastic success. Everyone had a great night and we raised awareness of Ground Swell CIC and even some money too that is going to help the UKPSA Pro Junior tour.

I have to say a massive thanks to everyone who got involved in the evening. Whether it was helping out before hand, the performers on the night or if you booked a table. It couldn't have happened with out you! Thanks so much.

The feedback I have had from the event has been amazing. I don't think this is going to be the last event that Ben and I plan, we are hoping to do a lot more event management and make the Ground Swell Dinner an annual event.

Planning the event has given me a new lease of life, it was a whole new challenge for me and has inspired me massively.

I have also taken part in a course called "Empowering Smart Women." It does what it says on the tin, the course is aimed at women in business who wants to turn their weaknesses into strengths. I learnt about how I work in business and the things that I need to change to make me more successful.

I am ever so excited about having been on this course it is really going to help me with my work with Errant Surf, Ground Swell CIC and with my sponsors FOX, C-Skins, Nalu Beads and Errant.

Speaking of FOX......I recently got all my new winter items sent though! There is only one word to describe it.....AMAZING! I love every single item that I received.

What can I say – I am facing the end of September with a great big smile on my face, with so much happening in my surfing career, it is a really exciting time for me.

Boardmasters is upon us!

Being back in the UK hasn't been all bad. The Maldives seem like a distant memory, a distant but beautiful memory.

Coming home from the Maldives wasn't ever going to be easy, leaving the warm water and perfect waves was something I wasn't looking forward to. However to find out that I had got the cover of the July issue of Surfgirl with two of my close friends; Harriet Frost and Kerry Powel! Check it out bellow, this is definitely a career high.

I have been lucky enough to team up with Ground Swell and Errant. Ground Swell are running a project which goes by the name of "Pull in."
The basis of the project is to help young adults get training and qualifications in various different areas. For example next week we will all be carrying out our NARS and Level 1 Surf Coaching qualifications. This is only the beginning of the project, I will keep you posted along the way.
Ground swell are a non-profit surf foundation driven by young people to deliver surf related opportunities in training, travel and employment. In order to raise the awareness of Ground Swell and their backing of the UKPSA Junior surf tour, Ben Jones and I have decided to hold a 5* Black tie media event. So its all go at the moment! Errant have been kind enough to take me on as part of the Future Jobs Fund program. I am really stoked to work with them and can't wait to see what the next few months have in store for me.

Much to my excitement I got the chance to see and model the Fox summer range for 2011 and I must add it's exceptional. I know its a long way off but I am so excited about it! If you haven't seen any of the Fox range before check it out on site.

Sunshine, Surfing, Smiles and the Maldives

Summer has been blossoming nicely, endless sun filled days and waves galore what more could a surfer girl ask for?

Recently my life hasn't been so rush rush rush!!!
I have had some time to relax with my friends without a care in the world, getting all my final arrangements ironed out for my boat trip to the Maldives!
I cannot explain how excited I am for this trip. It really is a once in a life time opportunity, getting the chance to surf with some of the top UK and Irish girls and even a Hawaiian chick, in one of the most beautiful places the world has to offer.

My packing has finally commenced. However I don't reckon packing a few bikinis and sun lotions is going to take too long :-)
Speaking of bikinis, Fox have sent me through some absolute stunners and a cheeky one piece, defiantly think I will be rocking that one out in a couple of the Maldives shoots!

I fly out on Sunday with my good friend Laura Crane, a little stop over in Dubai before we embark on our final destination, Male, Maldives!
Speaking to a few of the girls who have done a boat trip like this before it basically consists of; waking up early, surfing, eating, surfing, surfing, eating, surfing, cocktails and then bed! Sounds good to me!

Even though I cannot wait to get out of the UK and hit the Maldives, I really can't complain about home at the moment.
I have had fun waves, beautiful weather and amazing friends to enjoy it all with. I have got good feelings about this summer. It has already started on a high; lets just hope it keeps it up!

Its been a while since my last blog! Sorry I have been very busy having lots of fun but here it is!

I got all my Fox gear, which I must say is all amazing. I am so lucky to have been taken on by them.

So just as my fox gear arrived I was summoned by photographer Jason Freast photographer. I was summoned to play in the sea at my local beach in the sun, the shoot was so much fun. It’s a hard life sometimes. He needed some shots to cover the heat wave we have just had and all been loving in Cornwall. The shots were for a few of the national newspapers, opening The Sun and The Daily Mirror on Saturday and seeing myself was pretty cool.

The last couple of weeks have been packed full of shoots. This weather, in typical English style wasn't going to stay around for long and neither where the waves so we grasped any opportunity to shoot.

Things are going so good at the moment, with this amazing weather my days have been filled with surf's and general fun times on the beach. I even indulged in a spot of volley ball with my friends. I never realised how good it is for my fitness! I also indulged in a few jugs of Pimms as well......not all to myself though I did share!

My new C-Skins team suit was ready to pick up too, check out the images that my close friend and media guru Harriet Frost took. All I can say is that I will defiantly stand out!

Even is this busy spell I managed to fit in time to meet up with my sponsor Nalu Beads and did a little photo shoot with fellow rider Laura Crane. So since then I have been busy beading away, making some beautiful jewellery for myself. I might even treat me friends to some....if there lucky!

So its all go at the moment, got some trips coming up in the next month which I cannot wait for! So watch this space.

FOX TEAM RIDER

Fox have taken me on.

I have now joined their team of top surfers....Stoked!

So Saltburn didn't happen! Mother nature was not on our side; it was flat the whole weekend.

The weather was great though so I spent most of the weekend relaxing in a deck chair listening to Arron Evans (my brother) and Josh Hughes mixing on the DJ Decks; which had been provided by Ground Swell and The Cornwall Youth Service. These guys will be around for all the UKPSA events, they have such a good set up! We had full use of a nintendo wii and a flat screen TV.

My little road trip up North went well, we got to Saltburn in one piece and checked into the haunted Spa Hotel. As we all had expected the waves where none existent so we treated the trip as a mini holiday! I am really keen to go back up that way again when it’s on a chart. The area has so much potential and the locals were so welcoming and really made us all feel so at home! Saltburn rocks.

Top surf photographer Jason Feast dragged Laura Crane, Gwen Spurlock and myself off to do some edgy lifestyle shoots while we were up at Saltburn chilling and praying for swell. So keep your eyes peeled for the final product! They should look sick.

Whilst on my northern adventure I hooked up with the main guy from Fox Europe and I am pleased to say they have taken me under their wing. I am now part of the Fox team! Words can't describe how happy I am! All I have to do now is wait for my gear to arrive; it will be like Christmas again!

Now I'm home and we have waves! It feels so good to back in the water, especially at home with my friends. You can't get much better than that.

Next stop on the tour is Croyde for the SaltRock Open. Exciting times ahead!

A Fresh Start

Being back in the UK has been full of highs and lows. An emotional roller coaster if you like.

Some personal things in my life have caused my plans to take a complete change of direction. But I feel that this is for the best. What doesn't kill you certainly makes you stronger, which I have recently found.

Back in Newquay Cornwall now focusing solely on promoting my Surfing and Modeling.

I took part in the English Nationals sponsored by Protest had put on (the first competition of the year). This was my first major competition and nerves defiantly got the better of me. My surfing was not up to scratch and to my disappointment I didn't make it past my first heat.

"Winning is a habit but sadly so is loosing"

This is just something I will have to take on the chin. I have taken only positives from the event. I am looking at new ways to approach my heats and change my mental attitude.

The only way to improve is surf more, which isn't a bad thing at all.

I had a great time at the event, there was a really atmosphere. It was really nice to catch up with old friends.

A good friend and fellow surfer of mine Karma Worthington got 3rd on the Women's so I was so stoked for her! Hopefully it will be the first of many for her this season!

Training for my events can get pretty tricky when the waves aren't really at their best. However I have been going in whatever even if it is a real grovel session. I have made skipping and strengthening exercises a part of my everyday lifestyle now.

So even if I don't get as much water time as I want I am always training. Training to become the best that I can be.

One of my recent high points is being picked up by surf bead company Nalu Beads.

These guys are great and I really feel that they will give me so many opportunities and really help me push my modelling and surfing.

So I have been busy making bracelets and necklaces. This has been helping pass the time during our flat spell.

Next stop for me is Saltburn.......think a little road trip is on the cards for me. I will be travelling with Laura Crane and my brother Arron Evans who incidentally is in this months GQ magazine!

England has welcomed me back with cold open arms.

My winter so far has consisted of surfing and training in warm climates. January began with a short visit to Bali, a little warm up to my winter adventure. The heat and humidity was a big shock to my system but I soon acclimatised with little trouble.

The waves where fun but as it was still in the wet season so we were not expecting too much. Lyndon and I where both so happy just to be surfing in warm water.

Our next stop was Australia. This was my first time down under. It defiantly lived up to my expectations. The waves where perfect for me, just like a training ground.

Both Lyndon Wake and I surfed around the Central Coast and Gold Coast, we where blessed with consistently good waves throughout our whole trip.

We shot with Kelly Smith, a top photographer from the Central Coast whenever possible. This was my first time every working with a photographer in the water. I am so used to shooting on land so it was a great change and a bit of a challenge. But I loved it.

OZ was over too quickly so a quick trip across the ocean to Bali was just what we needed to end our winter away.

This was our chance to film. Video analyse has been a big part of my surf training and luckily for us Lyndon’s sponsors Baggy's Surf Lodge in Croyde brought him a HD video camera. Just what we needed to document our trip.

Now I'm back in the UK living in Croyde, Devon. Surfing and training as much as possible!

Just before I set off on my winter adventure I picked up wetsuit sponsorship from C-Skins Wetsuits. I am so thankful for their support and keeping me warm in the sea.
